Woman and cultural discourses

Tebaa 3rd volume

The articles of this volume tickle different cultural discourses which contribute to forming social images and roles of both men and women. The first article in this volume includes a presentation on the importance of the dominant cultural discourses. It illustrates how discourses in the media, education, religion and literature form images of men and women and their social roles. This article attempts to raise awareness concerning the danger of these discourses and the importance of working to change them.

The study “Children Literature” discusses literature’s role in forming fixed images for social roles of men and women. The study focuses on the idea that there is no difference between an Egyptian child and a French child when the matter is related to the social roles of the male or female. In addition, the book’s “Gendering Discourse/ Gendered Discourse” includes a collection of literary works from and about the Middle East. This collection reflects and stresses the women’s image in Middle East society.

The volume also sheds light on the linguistic cultural discourse which is represented in the abstract of the book “burying dictionary: the masculine trend in the Arabic dictionary”. This book stresses that Arabic language rules sometimes call for discrimination against women and occasionally, even, discrimination of men. The article “Women Legend” analyzes some beliefs concerning women’s beauty, and how these false beliefs controlled women and marginalize them for many times.
