Declaration on the Elimination
of All Forms of Discrimination
against Women
Schemes of international human rights issues were not dealing
with women, even in 1949, the date of the first global
conference, which has mainly to demonstrate the idea of people's
right to equality in dignity and rights and others, and equally
between men and women.
Over time, international women's rights convention were first
summarized by the women's United Nations in 1967., When they
presented the "Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination against Women" and, of course, not mandatory The
announcement resulted in the lack of response by most countries,
particularly the developing world, which called on the United
Nations to adopt in 1975. International Women's Year, in the 28

In the same year, Mexico City witnessed the convening of the
World Conference on Women. , And highlighted the achievements of
this conference, "to adopt a global plan of action adopted by
all States acceding to the United Nations, aimed at ensuring
greater integration of women in various walks of life. It also
launched the conference in the years between 1976 and 1985 the
name" United Nations Decade for Women
Under the slogan: "United Nations Decade of the World Women:
Equality, Development and Peace" conference was held in the city
of Copenhagen - Denmark between 14 and 30 July 1980.
It should be noted that between Mexico City and Copenhagen
conferences, held several conferences, and perhaps the most
important concerns of these conferences and conventions is the
Convention adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations
on 18/12/1979 under the name "Convention on the Elimination of
All Forms of Discrimination against Women"
And the Beijing + 5 meeting in New York in the summer of 2000.
Which was devoted to study the application of the
recommendations of the Beijing Conference on Women in 1995? In
the past five years and planning for the next five years, under
the theme "Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace
for the twenty-century atheist."
Perhaps the most important recommendations made by the Beijing
Conference 5 + is to work to lift the reservations on the
Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
against Women and to the final ratification, and that by the
year 2005. .
In general we can say that the Convention on "Elimination of all
Forms of Discrimination against Women", published in 1979,
consisting of thirty articles put in the form of binding legal
principles and internationally accepted measures to achieve
equal rights for women everywhere
The aim of the Convention to ensure equal rights for women,
regardless of their marital status in all fields - political,
economic, social, cultural and civil - a call for the enactment
of national legislation prohibiting discrimination, and
recommends the adoption of temporary special measures to
accelerate the achievement of real equality between men and
women, and to take steps aimed at modify social and cultural
patterns that perpetuate such discrimination.
It also provides other measures to ensure equal rights for women
in the fields of politics, in public life, education,
employment, pay and equal responsibility within the framework of
life, and the Convention calls for the non-discrimination in the
health services provided to women.
The 20 countries agreed to abide by the provisions of the
Convention as of March 1, 1980 over the years the numbers of
States acceding to the Convention to 185, according to the
latest estimates for 2006 are in various stages of joining them
and the other of which has reached the stage of ratification and
implementation
